A war of words ensued between the Centre government and the Opposition after the Congress released a ‘black paper’ against the bjp this morning. In a sarcastic jibe at the Congress, Prime Minister Narender Modi called the party’s allegations a ‘kaala teeka’ (to ward off evil eye) in the midst of all the good work done by his government. This comes after the government announced it would table a ‘white paper’ on the “mismanagement” of the economy prior to 2014.

The White Paper elaborates economy during UPA regime

The ‘White Paper said when the Modi government assumed office in 2014, the economy was in a “fragile state”; public finances were in “bad shape”; there was economic mismanagement and financial indiscipline, and widespread corruption.

“It was a crisis situation. The responsibility to mend the economy step by step and to put the governance systems in order was enormous,” said the paper which was tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament.
