Mumbai: A significant fire erupted in the Santosh Nagar slum close to the entrance of Film City in Goregaon (East) on Thursday evening, but thankfully, no injuries have been reported, according to fire officials.

The blaze was controlled within three hours, the official stated.

The Disaster Management cell received reports of the fire at 7:29 p.m., which escalated to a Level 2 (major fire) by 7:50 p.m.

Approximately 14 fire engines, equipped with breathing apparatus, ambulances, and other essential gear, were dispatched to address the situation.

A fire official confirmed that the fire was contained to the slum area adjacent to Film City, where residents managed to evacuate quickly, resulting in no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

“The fire has affected around 150 to 200 hutments. We have secured the area and firefighting efforts are ongoing,” the official added.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has arranged food and shelter for around 200-250 affected residents at Gokuldham municipal school, as reported by the official.

“There are no injuries related to the incident. Firefighting operations are in progress, with all relevant agencies and the 108 ambulance service present on-site. Additional details are forthcoming,” the fire official remarked.

So far, the fire has remained limited to the huts in the vicinity, stated the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

This fire follows another incident on February 19, when flames broke out at a shop in Azad Wadi Chawl in Kandivali, also without any injuries reported.

Earlier, on February 11, a blaze consumed at least ten shops in a furniture market located in Oshiwara, and on January 25, another fire at a furniture market in Goregaon affected five shops, with both incidents resulting in no casualties.
