Raipur: Five tourists are stranded in the rising waters of Devpahari waterfall in Chhattisgarh, a popular scenic spot, after a sudden increase in water levels. The group, consisting of two boys and three girls, got caught in the strong current of the Devpahari River and are unable to return to safety.
Following a distress call, the Lemru police arrived quickly and launched a rescue operation, with a special rescue team also being dispatched to aid in evacuating the stranded tourists. Devpahari, situated in a scenic region, becomes particularly dangerous during the monsoon months when heavy rains cause rivers and streams to swell rapidly.
Officials emphasized the importance of exercising caution when visiting such locations during this season. They noted that public access is officially restricted at all waterfalls and river sites from June 15 to October 15 to mitigate the risk of flooding and sudden water surges. These restrictions are regularly communicated through notices, media, and public awareness campaigns.
Authorities reminded visitors and locals alike to adhere strictly to safety advisories, avoid deep waters during the rains, and respect the seasonal restrictions to prevent life-threatening incidents. Rescue efforts are ongoing to free the stranded tourists, and more updates are awaited as the situation develops.
