Flood fury in North-East: Schools, offices closed in Manipur, Assam; over 11 lakh people affected

The Manipur government has declared a holiday in all government offices in the state on Wednesday (3 July), while on the other hand schools of the state will remain closed today and tomorrow i.e. till 4 July.

New Delhi: Southwest Monsoon has covered the entire country before the scheduled time. Heavy rains are occurring in almost all the states across the country. The situation is the worst in the North-East. Manipur and Assam are flooded and people are suffering as life is thrown out of gear.

On Tuesday (2 July), the body of a 25-year-old man who fell into the Senapati river was recovered. More than 3 km of the India-Myanmar road is also flooded. More than 1000 people have been affected.

Three people also lost their lives due to floods in Assam. This has increased the death toll in floods, landslides and storms in the state this year to 48. More than 11.3 lakh people are affected by floods in 23 districts of the state. Till Monday, more than 6.44 lakh people were affected in 19 districts.

Roads in Junagadh, Gujarat are submerged in rain water. Due to this, 30 villages have been cut off from communication. Vanthali received a record 361 mm of rain from Monday morning to Tuesday morning. Saurashtra and the southern region received more than 200 mm of rain. A part of the staircase of a two-storey building collapsed in Ahmedabad. The fire brigade team rescued 16 people trapped in the building through a hydraulic platform.
