Bengaluru: In a tragic road accident in Bengaluru Rural district on Friday, at least four people, including two children, lost their lives after a collision between an Andhra Pradesh RTC bus and a truck. Sixteen others were injured, with two in critical condition.
The victims have been identified as 44-year-old Keshava Reddy, 21-year-old Tulasi, four-year-old Pranathi, and a one-year-old baby named Maria. Authorities said all the deceased were from Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh.
The crash happened at Gottipura Gate in Hoskote taluk, near Bengaluru, on the National Highway connecting Kolar and Hoskote. The bus, operated by Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, was traveling from Tirupati to Bengaluru when the driver lost control while trying to overtake and collided with the rear of a truck heading in the same direction.
Initial investigations suggest that the driver might have dozed off, leading to the accident, which damaged the bus severely. The injured are being treated at a private hospital in Hoskote, and the police are conducting further investigations.
This incident follows several recent road accidents in Karnataka. On May 21, a tragic collision involving an SUV, a bus, and a truck near Vijayapura resulted in six deaths. Earlier, on May 12, two separate crashes claimed five lives in Chitradurga district and Hosakote town. In one of these, a head-on collision between a car and a truck near a temple in Chitradurga killed three people, including a woman. The other involved a tempo and a two-wheeler in Chikkahullur village, where two individuals died and one was critically injured after the tempo, which was overspeeding, hit a motorcycle.
