Jammu: At least four individuals lost their lives on Sunday when their vehicle fell into a gorge in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, the accident occurred in the Massu Paddar area when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to tumble into a deep gorge. A rescue operation was launched immediately following the incident, and two additional individuals are reported missing and are currently being searched for.

This tragic event took place just a day after a separate road accident claimed the lives of four soldiers in Bandipora district, Kashmir. In that incident, the driver of an Army vehicle lost control, leading to the vehicle plunging into a gorge. Medical officials reported that two soldiers were pronounced dead at the hospital, while two others later succumbed to their injuries. One soldier remains hospitalized.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed their condolences for the soldiers lost in the Bandipora accident.

In response to these events, Army, police, and security forces have stepped up anti-terrorism operations and patrolling in both the rural areas and border regions, amid concerns that terrorists may attempt to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir. Following recent attacks by terrorists, security forces are intensifying efforts to dismantle their networks and protect the region, a move prompted by the successful and peaceful conduct of local elections witnessed by international diplomats, which has led to frustration among terrorist leaders across the border in Pakistan.
