Four individuals tragically lost their lives due to electrocution, and one person was injured in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. The incident took place on Sunday night in Tadiparru village, where the victims were preparing for the inauguration of a statue of Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud, which was scheduled to be unveiled by actor Suman on Monday.
Authorities reported that the victims were setting up a banner when they accidentally came into contact with a live electrical wire. While four people died instantly, the fifth individual sustained critical injuries and was transported to a medical facility.
The deceased have been identified as Bolla Veerraju, Pamarti Nagendra, Marisetti Manikantha, and Kasagani Krishna. Their bodies have been taken to the government hospital in Tanuku. The injured person, Annatarao, is currently receiving treatment at the Tanuku Area Hospital. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
This event comes amid a long-standing dispute between two factions regarding the installation of the statue, which was recently approved by a local official after discussions with both groups.
In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his condolences and announced financial compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each family of the victims. He also instructed officials to ensure that the injured person receives optimal medical care.
Energy Minister Gottipati Ravikumar extended his sympathies to the bereaved families, while Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh visited the Tanuku government hospital to offer comfort to the victims’ relatives, assuring them that the government would provide all necessary assistance and calling for the best treatment for the injured. The minister was informed by officials that a case had been opened at Undrajavaram Police Station, and that investigations are ongoing.
