New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad criticized the BJP-led Central government, claiming they have been dishonest for the past 11 years and suggesting that this year’s Economic Survey will yield no significant results. Azad stated, “For the last 11 years, the government has been lying. When PM Modi was running for Prime Minister, he made several promises, including giving Rs 15 lakhs to everyone, creating two crore jobs annually, and reducing diesel and petrol prices. They consistently lie. Nothing will come from the Economic Survey…”

Earlier, Chandrashekhar Azad, President of the Azad Samaj Party-Kanshiram, expressed that while people have hope in the government, there is also apprehension about whether those hopes will be met. He noted that the budget session would influence the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, stating, “We have hopes from the government, but there’s fear about whether they will deliver. Youth, farmers, and women all have expectations. This budget session coincides with the assembly elections in the capital, which will impact it as well…”

The budget session of Parliament began today with a joint address by President Droupadi Murmu. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Economic Survey for 2024-25 in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, after which both houses were adjourned for the day.

The Economic Survey projects India’s economy to grow between 6.3% and 6.8% in FY26, highlighting strong economic fundamentals supported by a stable external account, fiscal consolidation, and private consumption. It also emphasizes the government’s plans to boost long-term industrial growth through research and development (R&D), support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and investment in capital goods to enhance productivity, innovation, and global competitiveness.

The Union Budget will be presented on February 1 at 11 am, outlining the government’s fiscal policies, revenue and expenditure proposals, taxation reforms, and other important announcements. The budget session is scheduled to run from January 31 to April 4.
