Congress leader Udit Raj expressed serious concerns regarding the recent murder of NCP politician Baba Siddique, questioning the effectiveness of the Maharashtra government and its Home Minister. In an interview with ANI, he stated, “This is not an ordinary incident. He was threatened before being killed. This raises questions about the government’s competency and whether the Home Minister should remain in his position. It seems gangsters are operating from jail, yet what actions are the Home Minister and the Maharashtra government taking?”
Earlier, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch arrested Pravin Lonkar in Pune as part of the investigation into Siddique’s murder. Authorities revealed that Pravin is the brother of Shubham Lonkar, who had claimed responsibility for the murder on social media, alleging it was orchestrated by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Shubham is currently on the run. Police reported that Pravin provided refuge to the arrested suspects in Pune.
Additionally, an ossification test conducted on Dharmaraj Kashyap, one of the accused in the murder case, confirmed that he is not a minor. This medical test estimates a person’s age based on bone fusion and was ordered by Mumbai’s Esplanade Court after Kashyap’s lawyer argued he was a minor. Subsequently, Kashyap was presented in court, which granted police custody until October 21.
The investigation revealed that Pravin Lonkar (28) and his brother Shubham were allegedly involved in plotting the murder, with Kashyap and Shivkumar Gautam also being implicated. Baba Siddique was fatally shot outside his office in Nirmal Nagar, and his last rites were held with full state honors in Mumbai at Bada Qabrastan on Sunday.
