Hyderabad: A 25-year-old German woman was reportedly raped by a cab driver on the outskirts of Hyderabad while on her way to the airport, according to police.

The incident occurred on Monday night in Mamidipally under the jurisdiction of the Pahadishareef Police Station within the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate.

The victim reached out to the police via Dial 100 to report the crime. Authorities have since detained a suspect and are currently interrogating him.

According to police reports, the German woman was in Hyderabad visiting a friend. During her stay, she and others had engaged in sightseeing around the city. After dropping off the other passengers, the cab driver allegedly took her to an isolated location in Mamidipally, where he assaulted her before fleeing the scene.

Following her complaint, the police quickly formed special teams to locate the perpetrator. A rape case has been filed under section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Pahadishareef Police Station. The woman was also sent for a medical examination, which revealed that her condition is stable.

Authorities have dismissed rumors suggesting that the woman was gang-raped, clarifying that only one individual was involved in the incident.

The victim had arrived in Hyderabad a week ago to visit her friend and had previously developed a friendship with someone while studying in Germany. She had also visited Hyderabad on earlier occasions.

Police are taking this incident very seriously and have established special teams to apprehend the suspect. Senior officials are conducting an investigation into the case, which has raised concerns about the safety of women traveling alone at night.

While the city has seen similar incidents in the past, this marks the first reported case involving a foreign victim.
