Mumbai (Maharashtra): Officials have arrested a woman from Guinea who was found carrying cocaine valued at ₹21.78 crore at the Mumbai airport. She arrived from Nairobi and was intercepted by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officers from the Mumbai Zonal Unit acting on specific intelligence.

During the inspection, authorities discovered three packets of white powder hidden in her checked luggage. A field test confirmed the substance was cocaine, with a total weight of 2,178 grams. The woman has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and further investigations are ongoing.

In a related incident earlier this month, customs officers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport in Mumbai seized 785 grams of suspected cocaine valued at approximately ₹7.85 crore from a foreign passenger. This incident occurred on April 9 and 10 when the passenger showed signs of nervousness during questioning and was subsequently found to have swallowed multiple yellow pellets containing a crumbled white substance suspected to be cocaine.

Under medical supervision, customs officers recovered the contraband on April 13, totaling 785 grams and valued at ₹7,85,00,000. The passenger was also arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act.

Additionally, on April 12, the DRI in Mumbai seized 6.7 kg of smuggled gold worth ₹6.3 crore from another passenger arriving from Bangkok. The gold was cleverly concealed within shoes. Based on specific intelligence, DRI officers intercepted a passenger traveling on flight TG 317 from Bangkok to Mumbai. A personal search revealed 14 foreign-origin gold bars of various weights, totaling 6735.42 grams and valued at ₹6.30 crore, which were ingeniously hidden in the passenger’s footwear. Both the passenger and a buyer were arrested under the Customs Act.
