Banaskantha (Gujarat): A devastating fire at a firecracker godown in the Deesa area of Gujarat’s Banaskantha district resulted in the deaths of 13 people and injuries to four others on Tuesday.

Banaskantha Collector Mihir Patel provided updates on the incident, noting, “The entire slab of the structure collapsed due to the fire at the firecracker godown in Banaskantha. We have recovered 13 bodies from the site. As we clear the debris, we are assessing the situation.”

Regarding the injured, the Collector indicated that two individuals were referred to the Civil Hospital in Deesa, while the other two were taken to Palampur Civil Hospital.

The authorities received reports of the explosion around 9:45 am, which led to the complete collapse of the structure. “This morning, we were alerted to a significant explosion in the industrial area of Deesa. The Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene and managed to bring the fire under control. Five workers were pronounced dead at the site, and four injured workers were taken to various hospitals. The blast was so powerful that it caused the roof of the factory to give way. We are currently conducting a search operation to find any individuals who may be trapped under the debris,” he said.

The firecracker warehouse was entirely destroyed in the blaze, and further updates are being awaited.
