Jamnagar: In Jamnagar, Gujarat, authorities destroyed a large stock of illegal English liquor and beer valued at over Rs 41.83 lakh. The operation, conducted under high security with senior officials from the administration and police present, saw 17,497 bottles crushed using a bulldozer at a designated waste disposal site in a rural area near Jamnagar.
The seized liquor was collected from multiple policing jurisdictions, including Panchkoshi A. Division, Panchkoshi B. Division, and Kalavad Rural Police Station. Specifically, 14,657 bottles were confiscated from the Panchkoshi A. area, 2,292 from Kalavad Rural, and 548 from Panchkoshi B., according to officials.
The effort was overseen by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Jamnagar Rural, along with the Mamlatdar’s team, Narcotics Control Branch officials, and police personnel from relevant divisions. This coordinated operation underscores the local administration’s ongoing vigilance and dedication to enforcing prohibition laws. Investigations are continuing to identify the sources and networks behind the illegal liquor stockpile.
Despite Gujarat being a declared dry state with strict prohibition policies, violations related to sale, possession, and consumption of alcohol are widespread and ongoing. In 2024 alone, authorities seized about 82 lakh bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), valued at approximately Rs 144 crore, which indicates a bottle being confiscated roughly every four seconds.
Ahmedabad City alone reported 2,139 cases involving over three lakh bottles of IMFL, along with nearly 8,000 cases of country-made liquor totaling 1.58 lakh liters.
In 2023, the state recorded 466 violations of prohibition laws, with liquor worth around Rs 20 crore seized — nearly double the Rs 10.4 crore confiscated in 2022 with 440 violations. These rising figures highlight both increased enforcement efforts and the persistent resilience of illegal liquor networks operating throughout Gujarat.
