Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has offered free land in Panchkula for establishing both a temporary and permanent campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar.

In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the CM urged for swift approval of the project. The Haryana government previously requested permission from the Union Home Ministry on November 15, 2022, through an official letter, to set up NFSU campuses in Panchkula. This request was forwarded to the NFSU, which formed a committee that inspected the proposed land in August last year and submitted its report to the Home Ministry.

In his letter, Saini emphasized the state’s readiness to provide the land free of cost and urged the Ministry to approve the project promptly. He highlighted that this initiative would enhance forensic science education in Haryana and generate new opportunities for local youth.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sumita Misra stated that Haryana is actively working towards fully implementing new criminal laws by issuing necessary notifications, guidelines, SOPs, and improving infrastructure and human resources across police, prisons, prosecution, and judiciary departments.

She described the university project as a major step for Haryana’s students, especially in the context of new laws like the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The institution will offer modern forensic techniques and judicial sciences education, enabling students to contribute effectively to law enforcement and judicial systems.

Misra also mentioned that the state is focused on modernizing equipment, capacity building, and infrastructure development. The State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is accelerating DNA and forensic reports, especially in sensitive cases. Several districts such as Faridabad, Karnal, Dabwali, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Sirsa, and Rewari have achieved impressive conviction rates of over 75%, reflecting the successful performance of forensic efforts.
