According to the Meteorological Department, there is a red alert of heatwave in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, parts of Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha on Thursday. At the same time, there is an orange alert of heatwave in Uttar Pradesh, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
The Meteorological Department (IMD) had said on Wednesday that the monsoon could hit the Kerala coast in the next 24 hours i.e. by Thursday evening. Usually the monsoon enters Kerala on June 1. A few days later it comes to the North-East and covers most of the country by June 5.
The reason for the early arrival of the monsoon is being told to be the Remal cyclone that hit Bengal on May 26, which hit West Bengal and Bangladesh last week. Earlier on May 30, 2017, the monsoon arrived ahead of time due to Cyclone Mora.
