Heavy rain alert in 11 states today: Monsoon to cover Delhi-Punjab till July 3

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain warning in 11 states including Madhya Pradesh today. These include Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh as well as Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and West Bengal.

New Delhi: The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain warning in 11 states including Madhya Pradesh today. These include Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh as well as Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and West Bengal.

By June 22, monsoon has reached Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, parts of Gujarat-Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal. It will completely cover these states in 3-4 days. By June 27, monsoon can enter Delhi, Punjab and Haryana and will move forward after completely covering these states by July 3.

Along with monsoon, a period of intense heat is also continuing in some states. There is a possibility of heat wave in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh today and tomorrow. There is a heatwave alert in Punjab and Delhi from tomorrow till June 25.

Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting to review the preparations to deal with the floods in different parts of the country during the monsoon. Secretaries of ministries and departments of Home, Water Resources, River Development, Earth Sciences, Environment, Road Transport, Chairman of Railway Board, NDMA officials participated in it.

Where did the monsoon reach

The southwest monsoon reached Nicobar on 19 May. This time the monsoon reached Kerala two days earlier, i.e. on 30 May, and also covered many states. Then the monsoon stopped from 12 to 18 June (6 days). Due to this, heatwave is going on in North India.

The monsoon had completely covered Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana by 12 June. Along with this, it had reached most parts of South Maharashtra, parts of southern Chhattisgarh, southern Odisha, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and all the northwestern states.

By June 18, the monsoon had reached Navsari in Gujarat, Jalgaon, Amravati, Chandrapur in Maharashtra, Bijapur, Sukma in Chhattisgarh, Malkangiri in Odisha and Vijayanagaram in Andhra Pradesh.

The Meteorological Department has estimated that the monsoon in June will be below normal i.e. 92% of the long period average (LPA).
