Heavy rain warning in 9 states including MP-Rajasthan today: Red alert in Arunachal Pradesh

The Meteorological Department estimates that positive conditions remain for the advancement of monsoon. Usually the normal date for monsoon to cover the whole of India is July 8. However, this time it is likely to reach all the states a week earlier.

IMD has issued a heavy rain alert in UP, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra today. Orange alert is in force in these states till July 2. Yellow alert has been issued for Gujarat, Bihar, Bengal, Chhattisgarh. After July 2, the entire Central India will be under the grip of heavy rain.

Heavy rain alert has also been issued in the North-East states. There is a red alert in Arunachal Pradesh. Meghalaya, Arunachal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are expected to receive 64.5 to 204.4mm rainfall between June 30 and July 3.

Less than normal rainfall in the country for the third consecutive year

Due to torrential rains in different parts of the country for two-three days, the rain deficit in June which was 19% till last Thursday (June 27) has come down to 14% on Saturday (June 29). Normally 157.7mm of rain should have occurred till June 29, but 136mm of rain has occurred till Saturday. This will be the third year when less than normal rainfall will be recorded in June. In 10 years, it has happened only four times that the rainfall has been more than normal.
