An 18-year-old Sikh devotee died after falling into a deep gorge near Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Sunday

Dehradun, July 21: An 18-year-old Sikh devotee died after falling into a deep gorge near Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Sunday. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Kale village in Amritsar district of Punjab.

Gurpreet Singh had gone to Hemkund Sahib for darshan with a group of about 90 devotees. Police said that he left the main footpath and took an old and damaged path, which was already closed for security reasons. During this time, he lost his balance and fell into a gorge about 100 meters deep.

As soon as the incident was reported, a team of police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other agencies reached the spot. Gurpreet’s body was taken out of the gorge by carrying out a rescue operation.
