India Rises to 77th in Henley Passport Index, Visa-Free Travel to 59 Countries

The Henley Passport Index for 2025 ranked India at 77th globally based on how many countries its passport holders can visit without needing a visa. This marks a two-year consecutive increase for India, which moved up from the 80th position last year. Currently, India shares this rank with Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal, all.

The index considers 199 passports and covers 227 travel destinations worldwide. While last year Indian travelers could visit 62 countries visa-free, this ranking is relative—reflecting the performance of other countries’ passports as well.

Israel’s neighbor Pakistan improved its ranking from 101st last year to 96th.

Indian passport holders can travel visa-free to a total of 59 countries across different regions: 19 in Africa, 18 in Asia, 10 in North America, 10 in Oceania, and 1 in South America.

Singapore remains at the top, offering visa-free access to 194 countries. It previously shared the top spot with Japan, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France in 2024. Japan and South Korea are tied for second place, enabling visa-free travel to 190 countries. Several European countries, including Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Spain, are jointly in third, with their citizens able to visit 189 countries without a visa.

The Henley Passport Index is an authoritative ranking that measures passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access visa-free. It is compiled using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), combined with research by Henley & Partners’ team.
