New Delhi: Ahead of an all-party meeting scheduled for Thursday, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held an almost hour-long discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence to update him on the current situation along the western border and the developments following Operation Sindoor.

Following the NSA meeting, the Union Home Secretary also briefed the Prime Minister.

This briefing coincides with increased border vigilance after heavy shelling by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch, resulting in 13 civilian deaths and 59 injuries. All casualties have occurred along the Line of Control (LoC), especially in Poonch. The government has responded by sealing borders in Rajasthan and other states, cancelling leave for government personnel, shutting schools and educational institutions, and closing airspace in several western cities until May 10.

Security measures are intensified, with a multi-layered air defense system fully activated, several warships deployed in the Arabian Sea, and infantry units on high alert ready to respond to any situation.

The government has convened an all-party meeting to brief political leaders about the strategic military strikes on terrorist targets across Pakistan and PoK. The early Wednesday strikes involved 24 missiles targeting nine high-value terror sites, including Lashkar-e-Taiba’s headquarters in Muridke and other major training camps in Bahawalpur. These targeted sites are traditionally known as hubs for extremist operations.

India clarified that the operations were not escalatory but a proportionate response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians. The government stressed that no Pakistani military installations were targeted and highlighted the restrained, focused, and measured nature of the strikes, underscoring India’s intent to respond without escalation.
