Pune: In a shocking twist to the Hinjawadi bus fire tragedy, which claimed the lives of four people, it has been revealed that the driver, Janardan Hambardikar, allegedly planned the incident in advance, according to a senior police official from Pimpri Chinchwad.

Senior Police Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat of Hinjawadi Police Station confirmed that Hambardikar deliberately placed highly flammable chemicals under his seat and set the vehicle on fire, attempting to pass it off as an accident. Investigations have shown that Hambardikar harbored grievances against his colleagues, primarily due to issues like delayed salary payments, absence of a Diwali bonus, additional work, and ongoing disputes with coworkers. These frustrations reportedly led him to plan the fire as an act of revenge.

The fire broke out on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of four employees from Vyoma Graphics, a company located in Hinjawadi, Pune district. Six others were injured when the minibus caught fire. The emergency exit at the rear of the bus failed to open, which contributed to the fatalities.

The victims, identified as Shankar Shinde, Rajan Chavan, Gurudas Lokare, and Subhash Bhosale, were among the 14 employees being transported from Warje to Hinjawadi. Following these findings, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police have filed an FIR against Hambardikar under Sections 103 and 105 of the BNS. Hambardikar has been arrested, and further investigations are ongoing.
