New Delhi: On January 4, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with Jaggi Vasudev, widely known as Sadhguru, the founder of the Isha Foundation based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Shah shared on the social media platform X, expressing his delight in meeting Sadhguru and discussing the significance of Indian spirituality in societal transformation. Sadhguru responded, appreciating Shah’s engagement with the nation’s civilizational aspects.
Sadhguru is a prominent advocate for environmental protection against climate change, leading initiatives such as Project GreenHands, Rally for Rivers, Cauvery Calling, and the Journey to Save Soil. In recognition of his contributions to spirituality and humanitarian efforts, he received the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor, in 2017. Notably, in 2022, he undertook a 100-day motorcycle journey from London to India to promote awareness of soil degradation through his ‘Journey to Save Soil’ campaign.
Earlier on the same day, Amit Shah also met with Swami Avdheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj, a Hindu spiritual leader, writer, and philosopher. Shah shared on X that they had an in-depth discussion on various topics related to spirituality and national interests, commending Swami Giri’s role in promoting Indian knowledge and philosophy globally. Swami Avdheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj is the current Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of Juna Akhara, the largest Akhara for Naga Sadhus in India.
