Jammu: A substantial cache of arms and ammunition was discovered during a large-scale search operation in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, according to security forces on Sunday.

The recovery occurred in the Balra area within Bhaderwah tehsil. Officials reported seizing 25 pieces of AK-series ammunition, one pistol, three magazines, and six rounds of pistol ammunition. This significant find indicates the presence of subversive elements in the region, and further investigations are ongoing to trace the source and intended recipients of these weapons.

The operation stemmed from intelligence suggesting attempts to revive militancy in the area. The existence of such arms presents a severe threat, prompting efforts to identify those involved in storing them.

In recent months, there has been an uptick in terrorist activity in the hilly regions of Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban, and Kathua in the Jammu division. The densely forested terrain has been used as a hideout for terrorists, primarily believed to be foreign mercenaries, who often conduct hit-and-run attacks before quickly retreating into these areas.

To counter these tactics, the Army and security forces have adjusted their strategy. They are now deploying troops deep within these forested regions rather than relying solely on Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs). More than 4,000 elite commandos trained in jungle warfare are engaged in these efforts across Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, and Ramban districts.

Since implementing this strategy, there has been a notable decrease in terrorist incidents in these areas. Additionally, reports suggest that hiding terrorists are trying to infiltrate the Valley as their ability to orchestrate attacks in the Jammu division is hindered by the extensive deployment of joint forces.
