New Delhi: Following her selection as Delhi Chief Minister-designate, BJP leader Rekha Gupta described the moment as a “miracle” and a “new chapter” for women in politics. In a media interaction, she pledged to hold corrupt individuals accountable, stating they would have to justify every rupee misused.
Gupta expressed, “This is a miracle, a new motivation, and a new chapter. My becoming CM signifies that opportunities are available for all women… Anyone involved in corruption will need to account for every single rupee.” She also thanked the Bharatiya Janata Party’s leadership for their trust in her capability to lead the national capital.
“This is a significant responsibility. I am grateful to PM Modi and the BJP high command for their confidence in me… I will carry out my duties with the utmost integrity. My first priority is to fulfill all commitments made by our party, and my second is to ensure that all our 48 MLAs work together as a team,” Gupta remarked, adding that she never anticipated becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi.
Gupta will take her oath as Delhi Chief Minister today at Ramilia Maidan in New Delhi, becoming the fourth woman to hold this position in Delhi’s history, following leaders from the BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party. She will succeed Atishi.
Elected as the MLA from Shalimar Bagh, Rekha Gupta has previously served as the general secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and as a member of its national executive committee, where she led various initiatives aimed at supporting marginalized communities and women. Her appointment as the next Chief Minister came after days of speculation regarding the possible candidates, following the declaration of Delhi assembly poll results on February 8.
