Student raped inside IIM Calcutta Hostel, Accused arrested after Social Media connection

A case of rape of a student came to light at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta on Saturday. The accused has been arrested.

Calcutta, July 12: A case of rape of a student came to light at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta on Saturday. The accused has been arrested.

According to the police, the two had met on social media. The student had come to IIM to meet the accused for advice on a personal matter. After this, she was taken to the boys’ hostel, where she was raped.

The incident took place in the business school’s boys’ hostel on Friday. The accused student was taken into custody on Friday night and was arrested today.

The victim has stated in the FIR that she was called to the hostel for a counselling session. There she drank a drink, due to which she fell unconscious. When she regained consciousness, she found out that she had been raped.

The victim alleged that the accused had threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone.

The law student was also gang-raped on June 25

A student was gang-raped on 25 June at South Kolkata Law College. The main accused, Manojit Mishra, is a former student of the same college. The other two are current students. The main accused, Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee were arrested on 26 June.

Police investigation revealed that after the incident, the main accused and his companions drank alcohol for hours in the college’s guard room. They threatened the security guard Pinaki Banerjee not to tell anyone about the incident. After this, they went to eat at a dhaba. Then they returned to their respective homes.

According to the police, on June 26, the day after the incident, when Manojit Mishra realized the seriousness of the situation, he contacted an influential person living in Deshapriya Park area. That person had helped him earlier as well. However, this time he advised Manojit to back off.
