Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light scattered rainfall across various parts of Gujarat in the coming days, offering temporary relief from the rising temperatures.
As per the latest IMD bulletin, light showers are expected to begin on March 31, primarily affecting Narmada and Tapi districts.
The rainfall activity is likely to expand on April 1, covering a wider region, including Chhota Udepur, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Bhavnagar, Amreli, and the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
By April 2, additional districts such as Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Dahod, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Botad, and Gir Somnath are expected to experience light showers, alongside areas previously mentioned.
Rainfall is forecast to continue in Narmada and Tapi on April 3, potentially marking the end of this wet spell.
The IMD has advised residents, particularly farmers, to stay updated on weather conditions, as these showers could impact harvesting and other agricultural activities.
While urban areas may see brief relief from the ongoing heat, the rain is not expected to be heavy. Residents are advised to take precautions, especially in areas prone to temporary waterlogging or sudden weather shifts.
Currently, Gujarat is experiencing high temperatures, with Ahmedabad recording 32 degrees Celsius under sunny conditions. The heat is set to intensify over the next few days, with maximum temperatures ranging between 40-42 degrees Celsius from March 31 to April 5 in Ahmedabad and similar conditions in Surat and other cities.
The IMD has warned that prolonged exposure to heat could be hazardous and urged people to stay hydrated and avoid going outdoors during peak hours.
Despite the extreme temperatures, the forecasted light rainfall in districts such as Narmada, Tapi, Surat, and Bhavnagar between March 31 and April 3 may provide brief respite. However, overall, the region remains under heatwave-like conditions, and necessary precautions are recommended.
