New Delhi: Indian Overseas Congress President and Rahul Gandhi’s close aide Sam Pitroda said- India should stop considering China as its enemy. The threat from China is often exaggerated.

Congress has distanced itself from Sam Pitroda’s statement. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that the views expressed by Sam Pitroda on China are not the views of the Congress.

In an interview to news agency IANS, Sam Pitroda said, China should be respected instead of being considered an enemy. I don’t understand what threat India faces from China. We all should work together. India needs to change its attitude towards China.

He said : “Our attitude has been confrontational from day one. It creates hostility. I think we need to change this pattern. It is not good for anyone.”

On question: How should India view China as a country: An enemy or a friend?

He answered: India should not look at China as an enemy country, rather it should respect its growth. Confrontational attitude creates enemies and we need to change that pattern. China is not our enemy… This attitude creates support in the country. It is time to increase our communication. It is time for us to Collaborate, Cooperate and Co-create and not have this command and control mindset. Some nations will grow slowly; some will grow fast.

The developed nations will grow faster but such countries will have an aging population as well. On the other side, developing economies will take time to grow and will have dividend of the demography. It is always good for world leaders to meet each other and bond with each other. It is always good to have more and more foreign interactions. India is a country of 1.5 billion people.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said

Pitroda’s statement is not the views of the Indian National Congress. China remains the biggest challenge to our foreign policy, external security, and economic sector. The Congress Party has repeatedly questioned the Modi government’s approach towards China. This includes the clean chit given to China publicly by the Prime Minister on 19 June 2020.

BJP said- Pitroda exposed Congress’ agreement with China

BJP has become aggressive on Pitroda’s statement. Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said in a press conference at the party headquarters – Pitroda has openly exposed the Congress party’s agreement with China. The serious thing is that the kind of thing Pitroda has said is a deep blow to India’s identity, diplomacy and sovereignty.

Rahul Gandhi has also made many such statements abroad. Some time ago, on his foreign tour, Rahul had said that China has solved the problem of unemployment very well. Our 20 soldiers were martyred in Galwan and after that if your overseas president (Sam Pitroda) speaks such language, then it is condemnable.
