India is set to emerge as the global hub for content creation, with projections indicating a sharp rise in the market from $30 billion to $480 billion by 2035, according to Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia. Speaking at the ‘India Mobile Congress 2024’ in New Delhi, the minister highlighted the importance of democratizing information access and India’s readiness to adopt advanced technologies like 6G, positioning the country at the forefront of the digital revolution.
A recent EY report suggests that the Indian content industry is expected to reach $30.6 billion this year. Experts noted that the use of AI in content creation presents significant opportunities for diversifying revenue, lowering costs, and engaging new markets, particularly in tier 2 and 3 cities where consumption trends are shifting.
AI’s capacity for real-time personalization and audience engagement is anticipated to drive explosive growth in the creative economy. Rather than replacing human creativity, AI is seen as a tool that complements it. Furthermore, there has been a notable increase in regional content consumption, with 95 percent of YouTube usage in India now comprising regional languages, marking a significant transition from a previously English-dominated digital landscape.
Industry experts emphasized that AI-driven content has the potential to educate and raise awareness, opening new avenues for disseminating valuable information.
The ‘India Mobile Congress 2024’ was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam, featuring over 400 exhibitors, around 900 startups, and participation from more than 120 countries.
