Guwahati: Assam Police are planning to issue fresh summons to YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, who failed to appear before the investigation team in response to an earlier summons. A senior police official stated that a CID team will soon travel to Mumbai to deliver the new summons directly to Allahbadia’s residence, requiring his appearance before the investigators.

Allahbadia had been scheduled to appear before the Assam Police last week in connection with his controversial remarks on the ‘India’s Got Latent’ show, which sparked widespread backlash. A case was filed against him in Guwahati, and he had been served a summons. The Guwahati Crime Branch had previously questioned fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, who was also involved in the controversy for his comments on the show. Chanchlani was interrogated for several hours and later released, with the police stating that they may contact him again if needed. Guwahati’s Joint Police Commissioner, Ankur Jain, confirmed that police notices had not yet received responses from other individuals connected to the investigation, but fresh summonses would be issued soon.

On February 21, the Supreme Court directed the Maharashtra and Assam governments to respond to Allahbadia’s request to dismiss or transfer a formal complaint related to the show’s alleged inappropriate content to Mumbai. Both Allahbadia and Chanchlani have been named in the FIR filed in Assam following the remarks made during an episode of the show, where Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, was criticized for his comments about parents and sex.

Chanchlani has filed a request to quash the Assam FIR, citing that a similar complaint was first filed in Maharashtra, and asking for the case to be transferred there. The Gauhati High Court granted temporary relief to Chanchlani on February 18, instructing him to appear before the investigating officer within ten days. Chanchlani’s lawyer argued that their client did not make any offensive statements on the show, and that the accusations in the Assam FIR were directed at the co-accused. The Guwahati Police filed the complaint on February 10 under various provisions of Indian law, including the Information Technology Act, Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
