Amritsar: Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu criticized Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s comments regarding the deportation of Indian citizens who reportedly migrated illegally to the US, stating that politicizing such issues is inappropriate.

Bittu expressed, “It’s not right to engage in politics about every situation. If migrants from Uttar Pradesh or Gujarat arrive in Punjab, there’s nothing wrong with that; they will be welcomed and returned to their states accordingly.” He further accused Mann of being part of a divisive group, the “tukde tukde gang,” claiming such attitudes are detrimental to national unity. He pointed out that illegal activities, including unauthorized businesses, are taking place in Punjab, questioning the shame associated with this.

A relative of one of the deported immigrants shared that the individual had moved to the US eight months ago after his family sold their land, investing approximately Rs 50-55 lakh, with the help of agents. The family learned about the deportation through the news.

Meanwhile, a flight carrying the second group of Indian nationals who allegedly migrated illegally to the US landed at Amritsar airport early Sunday morning. On Saturday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that the deportees would be well cared for, assuring that all necessary arrangements were in place. According to Mann, the deportees would spend a few hours in Amritsar before being sent back to their respective states, noting, “Our children are coming here anyway, and we will ensure they do not go hungry. We have made provisions for their stay, and flights back have already been booked by the Ministry of External Affairs.” The previous flight carrying deportees had arrived in Punjab’s Amritsar on February 5.
