What Dhankhar says;

In a statement, Dhankhar said he would be stepping away from public life to focus on his health and well-being.

“It has been an honour to serve the nation, but I must now prioritise my health,” he stated, without elaborating on any specific medical condition.

Dhankhar, who took office as Vice President in August 2022, also served as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, where he was known for his assertive style and frequent interventions during parliamentary proceedings.

His resignation has prompted a wave of reactions across the political spectrum, with leaders from various parties expressing surprise and extending wishes for his speedy recovery. The government is yet to announce an interim arrangement or schedule for electing his successor.

This unexpected political development comes at a time when Parliament is preparing for a crucial session, and Dhankhar’s absence will likely leave a temporary vacuum in the Rajya Sabha’s leadership.
