Jammu and Kashmir 1st phase Assembly elections: 50.65% voter turnout recorded till 3 pm in Jammu and Kashmir, as per the Election Commission of India. Anantnag-46.67%,  Doda- 61.90%,  Kishtwar-70.03%,  Kulgam-50.57%,  Pulwama-36.90%,  Ramban-60.04% and Shopian-46.84%

Jammu and Kashmir 1st phase Assembly elections: 26.72% voter turnout recorded till 11 am in Jammu and Kashmir, as per the Election Commission of India. Anantnag-25.55%,  Doda- 32.30%,  Kishtwar-32.69%,  Kulgam-25.95%,  Pulwama-20.37%,  Ramban-31.25% and Shopian-25.96%

National Conference Omar Abdullah expresses Confidence 

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah exuded confidence in the party winning the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir as the first phase of voting began on Wednesday. Speaking to ANI, Abdullah said the UT had been “waiting for this day” for 10 years. “It is a very good thing, we want the people to vote for National Conference as it will benefit J&K. I spoke to some people, National Conference is getting a lot of votes from all sections. We are hopeful that we will win. We have been waiting for this day for 10 years. We will wait for October 8, but so far the reports are good,” he said. Abdullah is contesting from the Ganderbal and Budgam assembly constituencies in the ongoing elections.

Voting Updates till 9 am

Voting for 24 assembly seats in 7 districts has started at 7 am today in the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. 23.27 lakh voters will participate in it.

11.11 percent voting has been done till 9 am. Kishtwar recorded the highest voting percentage of 14.83%, while Pulwama recorded the lowest voting percentage of 9.18%.

 

Bright sunshine on a clear autumn sky greeted voters as they started entering the polling stations in Jammu and Kashmir’s first of the three-phase Assembly elections on Wednesday. Security forces posted at the polling stations in Pampore Assembly constituency and Koil polling stations of the Pulwama district exchanged smiles with voters as they came out in the morning to exercise their franchise.

Voters also started coming out at all other places in Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian districts to elect their representatives to the Assembly, which are being held after a gap of 10 years.

In Banihal constituency of Ramban district, Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu division, voter enthusiasm was visible right from the beginning of polling. Majority of the voters were men in the morning as women are expected to come out in the noon after completing their household chores.

As many as 23.27 lakh voters in 24 Assembly constituencies of seven districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian in the Valley and Banihal, Kishtwar and Doda in Jammu division will decide the fate of 219 candidates on Wednesday.

Authorities have made extensive arrangements of security for the first phase of the elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Given the high voltage campaign done by various political parties and their candidates, voter turnout is likely to exceed the 58 per cent recorded during the recent Lok Sabha polls.
