Bengaluru, Karnataka: On October 9, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Bengaluru welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Maldives, led by President Mohammed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohammed. This significant event aims to bolster relations between Karnataka and the island nation, focusing on collaboration in information technology, trade, and tourism.
During the welcoming address, Chief Minister Siddaramiah expressed his pleasure in hosting the delegation, noting the First Lady’s connection to Bengaluru as a former student. He highlighted Karnataka’s reputation as the “Silicon Valley of India,” emphasizing the state’s robust ecosystem for start-ups, artificial intelligence, and innovation.
Siddaramiah also underscored the potential for enhanced trade relations, particularly in promoting Karnataka’s handicrafts and handlooms to the influx of tourists visiting the Maldives. He praised the state’s natural and cultural wealth, quoting poet Kuvempu’s description of Karnataka as “Sarva Janangada Shantiya Thota,” or “a garden of peace for all communities.”
This visit aligns with broader efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties between India and the Maldives. President Muizzu reaffirmed the enduring partnership, stating, “India has consistently proven to be a steadfast ally for the island nation.” The collaboration aims not only to enhance economic connections but also to foster educational and cultural exchanges, positioning Karnataka’s diverse heritage as a draw for more Maldivian tourists.
