In his speech, PM Modi praised the dedication of the workers involved in the tunnel’s construction, honoring those who lost their lives during the project. He acknowledged the bravery of the workers who continued their efforts despite the dangers posed by terrorism, stating, “Nobody wanted to go home even after we lost seven friends to terrorism. My tribute to those martyrs who gave their lives for the country.”

He assured the people of Jammu and Kashmir that any obstacles to their aspirations would be addressed. Modi noted his longstanding connection to the region, recalling his time as a BJP worker and the warmth of its people, even during harsh winters.

The Prime Minister highlighted recent developments, including the inauguration of the Jammu rail division and the dedication of the Sonamarg tunnel. He addressed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s call for statehood, stating, “Every promise will be fulfilled at the right time,” and reaffirmed his commitment to completing various infrastructure projects in the region.

Modi projected a vision of a “Naya Kashmir,” with enhanced connectivity through new roads, railways, and educational institutions. He pointed out that peace in J&K has led to a surge in tourism, with over two crore visitors in 2024, revitalizing the region’s reputation as a tourist destination.

He also mentioned the significant progress in local banking, with the J&K bank surpassing Rs 2.30 lakh crore in business, and emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive development for all citizens in the region.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari also addressed the rally, emphasizing the importance of road connectivity for a self-reliant India and announcing the completion of the Sonamarg tunnel and ongoing work on the Zojila tunnel.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to civilians killed by terrorists and noted the transformative impact of the new infrastructure projects on the region’s economy and connectivity.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah welcomed the Prime Minister, honoring those lost to violence and expressing hope for the restoration of statehood for J&K to secure its rightful place in India.
