New Delhi: On February 2, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal contacted the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Delhi to express concerns regarding alleged assaults on AAP members in the New Delhi Assembly constituency.

Kejriwal claims that AAP workers are being targeted by “goons” associated with Parvesh Verma, the BJP candidate for the New Delhi Assembly seat. There are also allegations of harassment against a female AAP worker.

In his correspondence, Kejriwal has requested the deployment of independent election observers in the affected areas to better protect AAP volunteers. He is also calling for strict action against those responsible, specifically identifying “BJP workers” involved in the attacks, and has asked for the suspension of police personnel for failing to ensure safety.

Sanjay Singh, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP, supports these claims, reporting that on February 1, several individuals wearing BJP sashes attacked AAP members in the Chelmsford Club slum area. Singh identified the assaulted individuals as Gaurav Singh, Suresh Acharya, and Pranali Rawat, the latter of whom also faced harassment.

Singh criticized the police for their inaction, stating that officers claimed they were instructed by the SHO not to intervene against Verma’s supporters. He has called for the immediate suspension of the SHO.

These allegations arise just days before the Delhi Assembly elections set for February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8.
