Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a press conference on Thursday evening. She stated, “I want to apologize to those who thought that there would be talks between the doctors and the government today and a solution to this movement would be found. If people want, I am ready to resign. I also want justice in the rape-murder case of the medical college by conducting an RG.”
She said- Today I waited for two hours for the protesting doctors, but they did not agree to talk. Due to the strike by junior doctors, 27 people have lost their lives so far, while the condition of more than 7 lakh patients is bad. Despite this, I will not take any action against them, being elder, I forgave them.
In fact, the junior doctors protesting in Bengal were called by the Mamata government for a meeting at 5 pm. The doctors reached Nabanna, but they did not talk to the government. The doctors remained adamant on the condition of live telecast of the meeting, while the government did not agree to it.
This was the third initiative of the government to talk with the doctors in the last 3 days. The doctors had rejected the last two proposals. They have 5 demands. They have put forward 4 conditions for talks on this. Junior doctors have been protesting for 34 days in RG Kar Medical College regarding the rape-murder case.
