Kupwara: The army has killed a terrorist in an encounter in Kowut in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning. An army non-commissioned officer has also been injured in the encounter. He has been taken to the hospital. The encounter is still going on. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps shared information about the operation on the social media platform X.
The post read, “Based on specific input regarding presence of terrorists in general area Kowut, Kupwara, a Joint Search Operation was launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice on days leading upto 23 July 24. On 24 July, suspicious movement was observed and challenged by vigilant troops, in response to which terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. In the ensuing fire fight one terrorist has been eliminated and a NCO injured. Operation is in progress“

On Tuesday, there was also firing in Battal sector near the LOC in Poonch. Lance Naik Subhash Kumar, who was injured in this, died during treatment.
Earlier on July 22, at around 3 am, terrorists attacked the house of Shaurya Chakra winner Parshottam Kumar in Ghondha, Rajouri. A soldier and Parshottam’s uncle were injured in this attack. In retaliation, the army killed a terrorist. In the last three months, more than 12 terrorist attacks have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir.
