Kuwait fire mishap: 12 people from Kerala identified among Indians killed, Health minister to reach spot

Notably, the Kerala government has cancelled the inaugural ceremony of Loka Kerala Sabha following the tragic mishap.

New Delhi: Kerala Government on Thursday said that 12 people from the State have so far been identified among those who lost their lives in the major fire that broke out in Kuwait’s Mangaf area. The Cabinet decided that Health Minsiter Veena George and an IAS officer will immediately go to Kuwait.


The decision was taken in an emergency cabinet meeting this morning. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The State government has also announced Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased and one lakh rupees for those injured. On the other hand, the Centre government has also announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the family of the deceased.


Notably, the Kerala government has cancelled the inaugural ceremony of Loka Kerala Sabha following the tragic mishap. “The Lok Kerala Sabha meeting will be held on June 14 and 15 as scheduled. However, there will be no celebrations,” the CMO said.

Yesterday early in the morning as per local time, At least 49 people, including 42 Indians, died and many others were injured in a building fire. Building in which fire broke out housed migrant workers from foreign countries. Reason behind the fire that claimed lives of nearly 50 people is still not ascertained.
