Maharashtra: Months after launch of Ladki Bahin Yojana in Maharashtra the scheme has come into widespread criticism after an audit report found that 14,298 men illegally taking benefits of the scheme from the last 10 months resulted in the loss of Rs 21.24 crore rupees in the last 10 months.
Reports from the various news agencies confirmed that the scheme was launched last year and promised to disburse 1500 to every eligible woman and was disbursed every month in their accounts.
However, the audit conducted by the Maharashtra women and child department found that 14,000 men are receiving benefits of this scheme fraudulently.
The audit also reveals that arolund 21.24 crore rupees have been disbursed into the accounts of these men
The scheme was promised Rs 1500 to women aged between 21-65 whose annual income is less than 2.5 lakhs.
The audit report also reveals that lakhs of ineligible women have been added in the list resulting in the loss of Rs 1640 crore in the first year.
Reports also reveal that 7.97 lakh women have been enrolled as third members of the same family despite the scheme restricting benefits to two women in the family.
The scheme has also seen a large number of beneficiaries who are aged more than 65 are getting benefited from this scheme.
Earlier this year around five lakh beneficiaries have been removed from the list after WCD Minister Aditi Tatkare had publicly committed to corrective action.
