Landslide in Mizoram: 10 died, many missing; schools and government offices closed

Mizoram DGP Anil Shakla told news agency PTI that 10 bodies have been recovered so far. Of these, seven are from local people, while three are from other states. Many more people are feared buried under the debris. The rescue operation is going on, but it is facing problems due to heavy rains.

Schools and government offices closed today, CM called emergency meeting
Due to continuous rain, all schools and government offices in Mizoram have been closed today. Private companies have been asked to get their employees to work from home.

Landslides have also occurred at many other places in the state. Two people died in this. Three people are missing after a building was washed away with water after a landslide in Salem Veng, Aizawl. They are also being searched.

Police said that Aizawl has been cut off from the rest of the country due to a landslide on National Highway-6 in Hunthar. Many state highways within the state are also closed. The water level of rivers is also increasing due to continuous rain. Many people living in areas along the river bank have been evacuated.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma has called an emergency meeting regarding the bad weather in the state. Home Minister K Sapdanga, Chief Secretary Renu Sharma and other senior officials will be present in it.
