Mangan [Sikkim]: Authorities recovered three bodies, including those of combatants, after a landslide struck the Chatten area of North Sikkim on Sunday evening, according to an army statement. The landslide caused extensive damage to nearby habitats, and more people are feared to be missing. Search and identification efforts are ongoing.

Meanwhile, tourists stranded in Lachung are being actively evacuated through coordinated efforts involving police, local residents, forest personnel, and the Lachung Hotel Association. Gyatso Lachungpa, leading the evacuation, and hotel owners from the Lachungpa community have taken personal responsibility for ensuring the safe return of visitors, assisting with logistics, carrying luggage, and helping children navigate the difficult terrain.

Mangan district Superintendent of Police Dechu Bhutia reported that over a thousand tourists are stranded in Lachen and Lachung due to heavy rains that caused landslides, bridge collapses, and flooding along the Teesta River. Evacuations had to be postponed because of a landslide in Shipgyer, Upper Dozongu on Friday, but efforts are underway to evacuate them on Monday. Damage at the Phidang bridge has limited vehicle movement to the Dzongu area; however, emergency work by the GREF has restored foot traffic for residents and some emergency vehicles.

Several tourists remain missing, with authorities working to locate them. Some mobile phones and ID cards have been recovered from the riverbank, but no signs of the missing individuals have been found yet. The bodies of any victims are difficult to access due to the terrain and rising river levels, with some bodies only visible from afar.

Forecasts indicate that most northeast areas will experience rainfall until June 5, with no significant change in maximum temperatures expected in the coming days.
