Dehradun, June 27: The effect of monsoon has started being felt on the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. This morning the Kedarnath Highway has been closed due to a landslide near Munkatiya.
Sudden landslide triggers panic among pilgrims
The passengers were terrified due to the huge boulders and stones that suddenly fell from the hill. Seeing the stones falling from the hill suddenly, the passengers started running here and there, many passengers saved their lives by running away from there.
Pilgrims halted; evacuated through forest routes
Currently, due to landslide, pilgrims going to Kedarnath have been stopped. The pilgrims are being evacuated safely by NDRF and SDRF personnel. Many pilgrims who were stranded on the other side are being evacuated through the forest route and sent to a safe place.
Actually, due to rain, mountains are continuously cracking in the most sensitive areas of the state. Traffic is disrupted due to closure of roads at many places, and the Char Dham Yatra is also being halted. Travelers have been stopped due to landslide near Munkatiya on the Kedarnath Highway.
Rescue and road clearance work ongoing
There is a problem in opening the route due to the continuous falling of heavy debris from the upper hill. SDRF and NDRF personnel are evacuating pilgrims through the forests.
Devotees returning from Kedarnath are being rescued near Munkatiya. Due to landslides, the travel routes are being constantly monitored. The district administration is busy opening the roads. JCBs and workers have been deployed on the spot so that the road can be opened easily.
