Hisar: Jyoti Malhotra, a YouTuber from Hisar, Haryana, who was accused of espionage against India, has appointed a lawyer, Kumar Mukesh, to represent her in court. The lawyer has submitted his authorization to represent her, and her first court hearing is scheduled for June 9 in Hisar. Mukesh stated that Jyoti, who is currently in jail, has signed the Vakalatnama, and they aim to file for bail after reviewing the case documents, which they have yet to receive. Once the documents are received and studied in the next two to three days, a bail petition will be filed. Jyoti’s father, Harish Malhotra, had approached Mukesh earlier, but the legal documents had not been signed then.
Mukesh mentioned that Jyoti has made videos at various locations for her YouTube channel and had traveled abroad with a valid visa. She was sent into judicial custody for fourteen days by the court on May 26. The allegations against her include sharing sensitive information and maintaining continuous contact with a Pakistani citizen. It is also claimed she met a Pakistani officer, Ahsan-ur-Rahim, in Delhi, traveled to Pakistan twice, and shared confidential information. During initial police questioning, Jyoti admitted to visiting the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi in 2023 to apply for a visa and meeting a man named Ahsan-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish.
Following her arrest, police officials, including IGP Sarthak Sarangi, indicated that they are still verifying the facts. He added that Jyoti was seen visiting Puri’s Jagannath Temple and posting videos about her visits to Chilika and Konark on Instagram, and that she was in contact with a fellow YouTuber from Odisha. The police are coordinating with their counterparts in Haryana to verify all these details.
