LeT terrorist associate killed in encounter in J-K’s Bandipora

Bandipora (Jammu and Kashmir): Security forces killed a terrorist associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) during an ongoing encounter in Bandipora district, officials reported on Friday. The associate has been identified as Altaf Lalli. During the exchange of gunfire in the Kulnar area of Ajas, two security personnel sustained injuries. Police officials confirmed that the two injured policemen.

During the exchange of gunfire in the Kulnar area of Ajas, two security personnel sustained injuries. Police officials confirmed that the two injured policemen suffered gunshot wounds and have been transported to a nearby hospital, where their condition is currently stable.

The search operation was initiated based on intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the area, which led to the firefight. The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army stated on X, “On 25 April 2025, based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a joint search operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Kolnar Ajas area, Bandipora. Contact was established, and a firefight ensued.” The operation is still ongoing.

This incident follows the tragic death of an Army soldier during a separate encounter in Udhampur district on Thursday, where security forces engaged in a fierce firefight with terrorists. Police reported that the operation in Basantgarh was initiated based on specific intelligence, leading to a confrontation that resulted in grievous injuries to one soldier, who later succumbed to his wounds.

The ongoing violence comes in the wake of public outrage over the attack on tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, leaving several others injured.
