Liquor sales during New Year festivities in Karnataka touch Rs 308 crore

By 2 p.m. on December 31, KSBCL had recorded sales of Rs 308 crore, although an official statement on the total figures has yet to be released.

On December 31 alone, liquor sales amounted to Rs 193 crore. This included the sale of 4.83 lakh boxes of Indian-made liquor (IML), generating Rs 250.25 crore, and approximately 2.92 lakh boxes of beer totaling Rs 57.75 crore. Overall, 7,76,042 boxes of liquor were sold.

Earlier, on December 27, liquor sales had peaked at Rs 408.58 crore, with 6.22 lakh IML boxes sold, contributing Rs 327.50 crore, along with 4.04 lakh beer boxes that brought in Rs 80.58 crore.

Excise officials expressed their satisfaction with these record-breaking sales figures.

New Year celebrations in major cities, especially Bengaluru, were reported to be smooth, with over a lakh people gathering at M.G. Road and Brigade Road to ring in the New Year.

To ensure safety during the events, extensive security measures were enforced, involving more than 2,000 police personnel in key areas like M.G. Road, Brigade Road, and Church Street, along with an additional 1,000 officers deployed in the tech-centric Koramangala area.
