Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh): An anti-encroachment operation was conducted in the Shakkar pond area, resulting in the demolition of approximately 100 illegal houses. Officials stated that notices had been issued to residents over the past four months, and houses with court stay orders were excluded from the demolition.

Priyanka Rajawat, the Commissioner of Khandwa Municipal Corporation, explained, “This is the Shakkar pond area. Today we are carrying out an anti-encroachment drive. We have been issuing notices and making announcements for the last four months to vacate the area. About 100 illegal houses have been demolished. However, 25 house owners had court stays, so their structures were not removed.”

Earlier, in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, a demolition drive was carried out in the Begum Bagh locality near Mahakaleshwar temple, where seven structures were dismantled amid tight security. Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) CEO Sandeep Soni mentioned that, roughly two years ago, the lease for the structures on either side of the roads was canceled due to lease violations. Following this, notices were served to four plots—where seven structures had been built—since some commercial activities still continued. He clarified that once the lease was canceled, these structures became government property and were considered illegal encroachments. A final notice was issued accordingly, and with support from the district administration, municipal corporation, and police, the UDA took possession of the land and began the demolition process.

ASP Nitesh Bhargav noted that a large police force was deployed to oversee the law and order situation during the demolition. He stated that seven structures across four locations in Begum Bagh are being removed, and about 150 police personnel are present at the site. He assured that the operation is proceeding peacefully.
