Prayagraj: In a commendable effort for devotees attending the grand Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, a special facility called ‘Netra Mahakumbh’ has been established to offer free eye checkups, spectacles, and medications. This initiative, which began on January 13, also provides free eye surgeries and promotes awareness about eye donation.
Supported by organizations such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Saksham Foundation, the camp has been assisting thousands of pilgrims each day. According to Satyavijay Singh, RSS’s Kashi region service head, this year’s Netra Mahakumbh aims to serve up to five lakh people, offering eye checkups for three lakh individuals, along with distributing glasses and medicines.
Patients in need of surgery are referred to local hospitals where treatment is also provided at no cost. The camp features a team of 40 doctors and over 100 medical staff who assist patients. For practical management, each patient receives three cards: one for personal use, one for the hospital, and one for the organization’s records.
Devotees have expressed their gratitude for the initiative. Shanti Bhushan Mishra from Prayagraj commended the camp as a fantastic effort, while Nimesh Pandey from Hardoi appreciated its benefit to many. Saurabh Shukla, another visitor, shared his intent to get an eye checkup and also to donate his eyes.
Overall, the Netra Mahakumbh not only provides essential healthcare but also nurtures a sense of social responsibility and compassion among the pilgrims, making it a meaningful aspect of this year’s Maha Kumbh festivities.
