Prayagraj: Former ISRO Chairman S. Somnath, along with his family, took part in the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, where they had a holy dip at the sacred Triveni Sangam and offered prayers at this grand spiritual gathering.
Somnath shared his experience on social media, stating that the Maha Kumbh represents humanity’s quest for a connection with the universe and the “nectar” of life. He expressed how blissful it was to have a dip at the Triveni Sangam in the company of Sadhus.
As per the UP Information Department, more than 3.09 million (30.94 lakhs) devotees took the holy dip on Wednesday morning, bringing the total to over 555.6 million (55.56 crores) since the event began. The 2025 Mahakumbh, recognized as the largest spiritual gathering in the world, started on Paush Purnima (January 13, 2025) and will conclude on February 26.
Numerous notable figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, have also taken part in the holy dip at Triveni Sangam.
In a statement earlier on Monday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the significant progress in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting Prayagraj, Kashi, and Ayodhya as examples of India’s emerging potential, attributing this to Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and the revival of global faith and respect for the country.
He mentioned that the number of visitors to Ayodhya has surged from 235,000 in 2016-17 to over 140-150 million in 2024, showcasing the reverence for faith and the region’s development. Additionally, a large number of devotees have been seen visiting the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi and Ayodhya after their holy dip in Prayagraj.
