Prayagraj: The ongoing Mahakumbh has seen over 3.75 million pilgrims partake in the holy dip at the Sangam by 8 am on Sunday, February 16, according to officials. Currently, there are no Kalpwasis at the venue, and the total number of devotees who have taken the sacred bath has surpassed 514.7 million as of February 15. The influx of pilgrims persists as the religious event progresses.
In response to the rising number of attendees, new traffic and bathing guidelines have been established for the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Devotees entering from the Parade Mela area will be allowed to bathe at the Sangam and the other ghats towards the parade area, while a ‘No Vehicle’ zone has been enforced throughout the Mahakumbh region.
With over 501 million participants, this Mahakumbh has set a record, outstripping the populations of several major countries like the United States, Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, marking it as the largest spiritual gathering in the world. According to the Uttar Pradesh administration, this Mahakumbh is also the first event to have more than 500 million direct attendees. Local reports indicated that 17 million devotees bathed on Paush Purnima, followed by 35 million on Makar Sankranti, 76.4 million on Mauni Amavasya, 25.7 million on Basant Panchami, and 14 million on Magh Purnima. As of 4:00 PM on Friday, over 7.9 million had taken their dip at the Triveni Sangam.
The 2025 Mahakumbh, which commenced on Paush Purnima (January 13, 2025), stands as the largest spiritual and cultural gathering globally, drawing devotees from all over the world. The grand event will continue until Mahashivratri on February 26.
