Punjab : Congress Patiala MP Preneet Kaur will join BJP on Thursday. Before this, her husband Captain Amarinder Singh, daughter and son had joined BJP. Preneet Kaur has been MP from Patiala four times and MLA once. Preneet Kaur has also been the Minister of State for External Affairs in the Manmohan Singh government.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s wife and MP Preneet Kaur will join BJP on Thursday. It is believed that BJP can field her in the Lok Sabha elections from Patiala seat.
There was speculation about Preneet Kaur joining BJP for a long time, but in the meantime, recently her daughter Jai Inder Kaur had made it clear in a statement that her mother Preneet will soon join BJP.
It is noteworthy that before this, after resigning from Congress, Captain Amarinder Singh along with his son Raninder Singh and daughter Jayinder Kaur had joined BJP in September 2022. Even the Captain has merged his party with BJP.
Preneet Kaur is a four-time MP from Patiala seat. First she won the Lok Sabha elections from Patiala in 1999 and then won the elections from the same seat in 2004, 2009 and 2019. Preneet Kaur was also the Minister of State for External Affairs in the then UPA government from 2009 to 2012. Apart from this, she has also been MLA from Patiala from 2014 to 2017.
It is noteworthy that Congress had suspended Preneet on February 3, 2023 on charges of anti-party activities. However, Preneet Kaur did not resign from the party because she did not want to lose membership of the Lok Sabha.
There were allegations against Preneet that she was continuously attending BJP programs. Not only this, Preneet Kaur did not even participate in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
